Banana Point: the surf spot in front of our surf camp Morocco !

One of the best waves in the North Agadir region right in front of our surfcamp.

Morocco is the land of long straight point breaks. One of them is just opposite our surfcamp, and it’s an excellent wave for all levels.

Banana Point: our local spot

Our surf & yoga camp is located on the Atlantic coast of southern Morocco, 10km north of Agadir Bay, in the village of Tamraght-Aourir near Taghazout, famous for its tajines and banana fields. Morocco’s surf spots are world-renowned for their ideal conditions. One of them, Banana Point, is located… right opposite our surfcamp! As you may already know, Zen Surf Morocco Surfcamp & Yoga is quite unique in its location, as we are the only surfcamp situated directly on the beach in the entire Agadir – Taghazout region. And that’s not all: right in front of our surfcamp breaks one of the best waves in Morocco: close-up on Banana Point.

You can watch the conditions in the morning directly from our balcony with its 180° ocean view, sipping your coffee as you mentally prepare for a big day of surfing. Those lucky enough to have a sea-view room will even be able to see the waves from their room window when they wake up.

A top-quality point break

Banana Point is a “Point Break” surf spot, i.e. a rocky point whose advance breaks the wave which then rolls into a bay. Banana Point offers waves for intermediate to advanced surfers, depending on the size of the swell, and works well between October and April thanks to winter swells. The wave, which is long and fairly easy up to 2 meters, isperfect for progressing. It’s a real training wave with a relatively easy start, and can also be surfed on a longboard.

Above 2 meters and in a westerly swell, Banana Point transforms into a powerful point break with tube sections, and offers memorable sessions for committed surfers looking for an alternative to Anchor Point, which can prove too crowded and too competitive. The atmosphere on the water is always very cool, especially if you avoid the “rush hours”. Banana is essentially a low-tide wave, like all the point breaks in the region.

When the swell comes in hard, those who don’t dare brave the elements can leave their boards at the surfcamp and walk up to Banana Rock to enjoy the spectacle and the ballet of surfers from the cliff that majestically overlooks the spot, while savoring mint tea and doughnuts sold by local vendors.

Right in front of the surfcamp

Surfing Banana Point couldn’t be easier if you’re staying at Zen Surf Morocco: just slip on your wetsuit and grab your board or one of the many surfboards available for hire at the surfcamp, and walk to the launch along the cliff, where the bottom is sandy and the current will help you head out to sea between sets. Zen Surf Morocco is the only surf & yoga retreat in the Taghazout region where you’ll have the ultimate luxury of surfing quality waves on foot right in front of the surfcamp without needing a vehicle to get to the spots (which also saves you money on your vacation), a further guarantee of a relaxing stay. A relaxing zero-stress vacation guaranteed!

From April to September, the swell dies down and Banana Point takes a well-deserved rest, giving you the opportunity to discover Morocco’s other surf spots, or to go for a swim in a calm stretch of water not too cold, just across from the sandy part of the beach, where you can relax after a good day at the surf school with our instructors.

Come surf with us!

Our unique location opposite a Moroccan surf spot of such quality also means you can go surfing at sunrise and sunset before and after the day’s surf session/lessons with our instructors and guides. Surfing at sunrise and sunset also means you can avoid the crowds, and you’re guaranteed to surf with very few people in the water, as the surfcamps in the Taghazout region don’t come that early and often leave around 4pm, leaving you with an empty surf spot to make the most of the last light of the day and watch the glowing sun set over the ocean from the line up.

As you can see, our “home spot” is accessible on foot and can be surfed by all levels of surfer, so don’t wait any longer to book your stay with us and spend a superb, sporty and exotic vacation in Morocco 🙂
