Taghazout Surf Camp: an unforgettable stay in Taghazout Bay
Your Taghazout surf camp ideally located directly on the sand.
Wake up facing the ocean, admire the waves from your balcony, and dive into an authentic experience where surfing, yoga, and Moroccan hospitality meet. Whether you are a beginner or a pro, enjoy an unforgettable stay to the rhythm of the tides, in the most peaceful and preserved area of Taghazout Bay.
Why choose our Taghazout surf camp for your surf trip?
Taghazout is not just a fishing village; it is the epicentre of surf culture in North Africa. Choosing to rest your board at our Taghazout surf camp means giving yourself privileged access to a world-class diversity of waves in a setting that remains truly authentic.
The highest concentration of world-class spots
Taghazout Bay is a geographical anomaly and a true blessing for surfers. Along just a few kilometres of coastline, you have access to an incredible density of spots.
From legendary point breaks like Anchor Point or Killer Point for the more experienced, to the welcoming beach breaks of Banana Beach right in front of our surf camp, there is always a wave working. This proximity allows you to spend more time in the water and less time in transit.
Whether you are a beginner or an advanced surfer, our surf camp is adapted to all levels.
Exceptional Taghazout weather and mild water all year round
This is the ultimate argument for a surf trip to Taghazout: the climate. With over 300 days of sunshine a year, the region is the perfect refuge to escape the European gloom. In the middle of winter, while the French or Portuguese coasts are freezing, you can surf here under a bright sun with air temperatures ranging between 18°C and 25°C. A simple 3/2mm wetsuit is enough to enjoy long sessions in January.
The "Surf Village" spirit and cultural immersion
Staying in a Taghazout surf camp means diving into a unique “chill” and bohemian atmosphere. Between two sessions, you can discover local life: the fish markets, the scent of mint tea filling the narrow streets, and the legendary Berber hospitality. It is this blend of intense sport and cultural serenity that transforms a simple trip into a profound human experience.
Perfect versatility for all levels
Unlike other destinations that can sometimes be too demanding, Taghazout is a democratic playground. The surf schools are excellent, and there are plenty of sheltered spots. If the swell is too heavy on the rocky points, the sheltered bays offer soft, long waves—ideal for a first surf camp in Morocco or for progressing on a longboard without the stress.
A strategic hub for exploring the hinterland
Taghazout is the ideal starting point for discovering the treasures of Southern Morocco. By choosing our Taghazout surf camp, you are just a stone’s throw from the famous Paradise Valley and its natural pools, the Tamri sand dunes for sandboarding, or the bustling Agadir souk. It is the guarantee of a surf trip rich in discovery, even on “flat” days.
Surf spots on the doorstep of our Taghazout surf camp
One of the greatest luxuries of a stay with Zen Surf Morocco is being able to forget about your watch and your car. Unlike many establishments tucked away in the hills or further inland, our Taghazout surf camp is located right on the sand. This strategic position gives you immediate access to three major spots, allowing you to slide into the water as soon as conditions are optimal.
Banana Point: the legendary right on your doorstep
- For beginners: At low tide with a small swell, it offers a soft, foamy section—perfect for learning to stand up safely.
- For advanced surfers: When the swell picks up, the point switches on, offering a world-class wave that peels for several hundred metres right down to the beach. The best part? Checking the sets from your balcony while sipping your morning coffee.
K12: the versatile peak for progressing
A few minutes’ walk north along the beach, you will find the K12 spot. This is an A-frame peak that offers both a right and a left.
- The Left: Particularly popular with regular-footers, it is highly manoeuvrable and rarely closes out, making it an excellent training ground for rollers and cutbacks.
- The Right: Often faster and steeper, it will delight those looking for a bit more speed and excitement.
K11: power and thrills
Right next to K12, the K11 spot is for those looking for a slightly more committed surf. This spot works best at low or mid-tide.
- The Take-off: Steeper and more technical than its neighbours, it requires quick reactions.
- The Wall: The wave is hollower and can, depending on the day, offer magnificent tubey sections. It is the ideal spot for intermediate and advanced surfers who want to test themselves on a more powerful wave before tackling the bay’s most famous points.
The comfort of the permanent "Spot Check"
Living right at the foot of the spots radically changes your Taghazout surf camp experience. No more loading boards onto the van roof at a fixed time: you follow the rhythm of the ocean. You can watch the tide rise, the wind shift, or the crowds thin out in real-time. This total freedom is what defines the spirit of our surf camp.
An authentic Taghazout Surf House facing the Atlantic
Much more than just accommodation, our Taghazout Surf House is a true beach home where modern comfort meets the soul of Morocco. Designed to be your “home away from home,” our Surf House offers an idyllic setting to recharge between sessions, with the Atlantic Ocean as your only horizon.
A rare and privileged "feet-in-the-sand" location
In a region where many surf camps are out of town or set back from the shore, Zen Surf Morocco stands out for its exceptional geographical position. Our Taghazout surf camp is perched directly on the coastline, offering immediate access to the sand. Here, the sound of the waves never leaves you: it accompanies your meals, your moments of relaxation, and your nights, creating a permanent connection with the elements.
Panoramic terraces and breathtaking views
The heart of life at the surf camp is found on our vast sea-front terraces. This is the ultimate spot to check the surf conditions over breakfast, admire the legendary glowing sunsets of the Taghazout region, or simply read a book lulled by the sea spray. Our outdoor spaces are designed to maximise this 180° panoramic view of the bay and the Banana Point surf spots.
European comfort and Moroccan hospitality
We are committed to offering you an authentic experience without compromising on comfort. Our Taghazout Surf House combines tasteful decor with Berber influences (zellige tiles, handcrafted rugs, natural materials) with European comfort standards. Whether you choose a shared room for the social vibe or a private room for more intimacy, every space is designed for your rest and well-being.
A haven of peace away from the crowds
Located in the most peaceful part of Taghazout Bay, in Aourir, our surf camp offers a serene alternative to the sometimes noisy centre of Taghazout village. It is the ideal place for those seeking calm and authenticity. You benefit from the tranquillity of a less crowded beach, while remaining just 5 minutes from the buzz, cafes, and shops of Taghazout village.
The rooftop: a sanctuary for Yoga and relaxation
Our roof terrace is undoubtedly one of the surf camp’s greatest assets. This is where our daily yoga sessions take place, facing the vastness of the Atlantic. It is also a social hub where travellers from all over the world meet to share a mint tea, swap stories of the day’s exploits, and gaze at the starlit sky after dinner.
Living the local experience in Taghazout and its surroundings
Choosing our Taghazout surf camp means immersing yourself in a vibrant culture where time flows to the rhythm of the tides and Berber hospitality. Between two sessions in the water, the region offers a total change of scenery around every corner.
Aourir and Taghazout: between authenticity and excitement
Just minutes from the Taghazout surf camp, discover two sides of Morocco. Aourir, nicknamed “Banana Village,” plunges you into local daily life with its traditional Wednesday souk, rich in colours and flavours. In contrast, Taghazout village will charm you with its bohemian atmosphere, blue-washed alleys, trendy surf shops, and seafront cafes.
Paradise Valley: the Atlas oasis
A must-do during your stay, an excursion to Paradise Valley takes you into the heart of the Atlas Mountains. After a short walk through palm and argan trees, you will discover natural turquoise rock pools and stone slides. It is the perfect spot for a refreshing swim and cliff jumping in a spectacular setting.
Berber flavours and wellness rituals
The local experience is also found on your plate and in self-care. Taste steaming tajines prepared with market-fresh produce, enjoy artisanal amlou (the “Berber Nutella”), or treat yourself to a traditional hammam followed by an argan oil massage. These moments of relaxation are essential for regenerating your body after your efforts in the ocean.
Sandboarding in the Tamri dunes
For those thirsty for adventure, we take you north of Taghazout, where the desert meets the ocean. The Tamri dunes offer a unique playground for sandboarding. Glide down slopes of golden sand facing the Atlantic at sunset: a different kind of board sport, but every bit as memorable as surfing!
FAQ: Your surfing holiday at our Taghazout surf camp
Why choose Banana Beach over a surf camp in the centre of Taghazout?
For the peace and direct access. You sleep facing the waves without the noise of the village, while remaining just 5 minutes away from the buzz of Taghazout.
Is your Taghazout surf camp suitable for beginners?
Yes. While the point breaks are famous, our sandy beaches (Banana, Panoramas) offer soft and safe waves, ideal for beginners who are here to learn.
When should I come to your surf camp for the best waves?
All year round. For big surf, aim for October to March. For beginners or family surfing in the summer heat, April to September is preferable. However, the surf camp remains suitable for all levels throughout the year.
How do we access the different Taghazout surf spots?
Three spots are accessible on foot from the camp. For others (Anchor Point, Imsouane), our vans transport you every day directly from the surf camp to the best spot suited to your level.
Do you provide equipment for advanced surfers in Taghazout?
Yes. In addition to beginner boards, we have technical shortboards and longboards available. Avoid airline baggage fees—everything you need is on-site.
What do we do if there are no waves?
It is very rare that there are no surfable waves. However, if that happens, we head to Paradise Valley, go sandboarding in the dunes, visit the local souk, or practice yoga on our rooftop. In Taghazout, you are never bored.
Do I need a hire car to get to the Taghazout surf camp?
No, nor for getting around during your stay. Our packs include transfers to the surf spots and airports. If you want to head out in the evening to Taghazout or Agadir, local taxis are very cheap and available 24/7 right next to the camp.
What wetsuit should I bring for surfing in Taghazout?
A 3/2 mm is perfect all year round. In the depths of winter (January/February), those who feel the cold might prefer a 4/3 mm. We provide high-quality wetsuits on-site.
Is the Wi-Fi stable enough for remote working?
Yes. We are equipped with fibre optic broadband in the communal areas. It is ideal for “digital nomads” who wish to alternate surf sessions with video calls facing the ocean.
Can I come to the surf camp alone?
Absolutely. It is actually the best way to meet people. The atmosphere at the Surf House is family-oriented, and shared meals naturally foster friendships between solo travellers.
